Why not?! As its subtitle suggests\, Drew Pisarra’s latest hybrid is serving up All Hallow’s Eve a bit early. The book’s first half\, Price in Purgatory\, is an imaginative radio play about the titular actor’s Dantesque journey from Hell to Heaven. (“…hysterically funny and intensely thought-provoking…” — Arts Independent) The second part\, Price in Celluloid\, chronicles Pisarra’s decidedly personal exploration of Price’s extensive filmography\, including some hard-to-find made-for-TV gems\, as if Price were the whole point. (“joyously obsessive” — Maitland McDonagh). Special guests will make this a book launch you won’t forget! \nAfter the launch there will be time for Drew to sign copies of Diabolically Good\, which will be available for purchase at the Bureau! \n*** \nDrew Pisarra is the author of three poetry collections (Fassbinder: His Movies\, My Poems\, Periodic Boyfriends\, and Infinity Standing Up); two short story collections (You’re Pretty Gay and Publick Spanking); and two radio plays (The Strange Case of Nick M. and Price in Purgatory). A grantee of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council\, Curious Elixirs: Curious Creators\, and Café Royal Cultural Foundation\, he is also a playwright whose works for the stage have included Tea Towels at Theater for the New City and Click at The Tank NYC as well as My Bedroom Is an Installation and Voiceover\, two experimental pieces co-written with Jerry Mouawad for Imago Theatre in Portland\, Oregon.

Yaffa and Randa Jarrar \nRSVP FOR THIS EVENT \nBoth authors will be discussing their recent releases: Be Better Broken: In Service to Liberation and You Are a Teen Mom: Instructions. The lived experience and wisdom from these authors will inform all communities on how to tangibly build a liberated world. \nAt this event there will also be a launch of the priority areas for trans and queer Muslims by a coalition of organizers and organizations that will help shape organizing priorities moving forward. \nThis event will be co-hosted by MASGD (Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity) and Killjoy Institute. \n*** \nMASGD is a Trans Muslim Global Majority organization that supports\, empowers and connects Trans and Queer Muslims and those who are values-aligned to build a liberated world. \nKilljoy Institute is a queer & trans led political home for the feminist killjoys building a liberated world through collective study and organizing. \n***\nMx. Yaffa is an author\, organizer\, and culture worker. Yaffa’s poetry\, non-fiction\, and fiction books have been sold globally and translated to various languages. Yaffa is the author of the poetry collections: blood orange\, desecrated poppies\, sage\, and thistle\, the non-fiction essay collections: whispers beneath the orange grove\, living to 99\, letters from a living utopia\, and be better broken: in service to liberation\, and the editor of the anthology: Inara. Yaffa is the inaugural Executive Director of the Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity and manages various other organizations and networks to support the most marginalized of the most marginalized. Yaffa’s service to liberation spans continents. They dream of living in a liberated Falasteen soon. \nRanda Jarrar is the author of the memoir Love Is An Ex-Country\, the novel A Map of Home\, and the collection of stories Him\, Me\, Muhammad Ali. She is a filmmaker and actor who has appeared in independent films and on the A24 TV shows Ramy and #1 Happy Family USA. She is a recipient of a Creative Capital Award\, an American Book Award\, and others. She lives in Los Angeles.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Bureau for the launch of SEX\, CLUBS\, DISSENT – an expansive visual history of queer nightlife. \nRSVP TO THIS EVENT \n\n\n\n\nFEATURING: \nAmelia Abraham \nAngel Lartigue \nHugh Ryan \nJeffrey Jin \nMcKenzie Wark \nAs much as an assertion that ‘we were here’\, images of queer nightlife – real or otherwise – can be erotic\, amusing\, alienating\, violent\, or exuberantly joyful\, moving us to seek out our own dancefloor\, strip club\, or sauna. Rather than a comprehensive catalogue or chronology of queer nightlife\, Sex\, Clubs\, Dissent is a love letter to those who went out and stayed out\, felt the urge to document or reflect what was happening\, or who have used their artmaking to dream new modes of being into existence. \nEdited by author Amelia Abraham\, the book explores how image-making has fostered\, and at times jeopardised\, the formation of queer practices\, subcultures\, and forms of resistance. It asks what our decades-long quest to catalogue and understand nightlife spaces through photography and film can tell us about our various relationships with them\, and how photography intersects with pleasure\, politics\, and protest.
