DESCRIPTION:RSVP FOR THIS EVENT \nLike a jukebox of queer history\, T.S. Leonard’s debut poetry collection\, Another Anthem of Fabulous Survival\, unfolds across decades of sound and geographies. Winner of the 2024-2025 Poetic Justice Institute Prize\, Leonard’s poems ask how memory becomes record and how record becomes song. Musical duo DAYS joins Leonard and a coterie of poets—including charles theonia\, Joshua Garcia\, and David Groff—to celebrate the New York launch of his debut poetry collection at Manhattan’s queer bookstore. \nCopies of the book will be available for purchase and the authors will be around for a signing after the event.  \nT.S. Leonard is a poet\, performer\, and educator whose work has been featured in Poetry\, Foglifter\, and Fourteen Poems and in collaborative projects at the Portland Art Museum and Pacific Design Center. Originally from Kansas City\, Missouri\, he lives and teaches in San Francisco.  \ncharles theonia is a poet from Brooklyn. They are the author of Gay Heaven Is a Dance Floor but I Can’t Relax (Archway Editions)\, If a Piece Falls off the Poem\, Keep It (Belladonna*)\, and other writings on zits\, piss\, and disco. \nJoshua Garcia is the author of Pentimento (Black Lawrence Press\, 2024)\, a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award and the Thom Gunn Award. His poems have appeared in Ecotone\, The Georgia Review\, Passages North\, Ploughshares\, and elsewhere. He holds an MFA from the College of Charleston and has received a Stadler Fellowship from Bucknell University\, an Emerge—Surface—Be Fellowship from The Poetry Project\, and support from the Hawthornden Foundation. He lives and writes in Brooklyn\, New York.  \nDavid Groff is an independent book editor and the author of three books of poems: Live in Suspense\, Clay\, and Theory of Devolution. With Philip Clark\, he edited Persistent Voices: Poetry by Writers Lost to AIDS; with Jim Elledge\, he edited Who’s Yer Daddy?: Gay Writers Celebrate Their Mentors and Forerunners. He teaches poetry\, nonfiction\, and publishing in the MFA creative writing program at the City College of New York. The event will be followed by a signing. \nTom Cole is a writer\, performer\, and artist living between the Lower East Side and Kingston\, NY. His work has been presented at Partici­pant Inc\, Thread Waxing Space\, Art on Air\, Dixon Place\, Clock­tower Gallery\, ICA Boston\, Performa\, Howl Arts\, Poetry Project\, and the Boston Center for the Arts. He is a three-time MacDowell Playwriting fellow\, and an Edward Albee Foundation Playwriting fellow. Cole’s writing has been anthologized in Pathetic Litera­ture\, edited by Eileen Myles; Sluts\, edited by Michelle Tea; Flesh and the Word 4\, edited by Michael Lowenthal; This New Breed\, edited by Rudy Kikel\, and Flashpoint\, edited by Michael Bronski. His first book\, Chimes: A Monologue\, will be released by The Song Cave in fall 2026. \nJulia Jarcho is a playwright and theater artist and a scholar of literature\, theater\, and critical theory. Her work across disciplines tends to focus on fantasies about writing itself\, often in relation to pleasure\, violence\, and theatrical performance. She is the author of Throw Yourself Away: Writing and Masochism (University of Chicago\, 2024) and Writing and the Modern Stage: Theater Beyond Drama (Cambridge University Press\, 2017)\, as well as the collection Minor Theater: Three Plays (53rd State\, 2017). Her play Grimly Handsome won a 2013 Obie Award for Best New American Play. She got her PhD in Rhetoric at the University of California Berkeley and has taught in the department of English at NYU and in the TAPS department at Brown\, where she directed the MFA program in Playwriting. Using examples from television\, film\, music\, sports\, and politics—including the cultural impact of late-2025 breakout series Heated Rivalry—Stulberg shows how today’s progress was built on decades of creative risk-taking and activism. \nDrawing on 14 years of interviews with 170 culture workers\, including Eric McCormack\, Lea DeLaria\, and Greg Louganis\, the book reveals six key strategies used to advance LGBTQ+ social change—from becoming visible to “staying queer.” Rich with behind-the-scenes insight\, How to Win a Culture War offers a timely playbook for changing hearts\, minds\, and culture in the face of ongoing political backlash. \nCopies of the book will be available for purchase and there will be time for a signing after the event.  \nLisa M. Stulberg is associate professor of sociology of education at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture\, Education\, and Human Development and an affiliated faculty member in the Department of Sociology at NYU. Her research focuses on the politics of race and education\, affirmative action in higher education\, school choice policy and politics\, and LGBTQ+ social change. She is the author of a forthcoming book on the connection between pop culture and LGBTQ+ social change\, entitled How to Win a Culture War: LGBTQ+ Social Change Through Pop Culture\, to be published by the University of Chicago Press in October of 2026. She is also the author of Race\, Schools\, and Hope: African Americans and School Choice after Brown (Teachers College Press\, 2008) and LGBTQ Social Movements (Polity\, 2018).  \nBrian Sims is a civil rights attorney and LGBTQ+ advocate who spent a decade in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to the state’s General Assembly. Before his time in state office\, he was co-captain of the Bloomsburg University football team\, becoming the first openly gay college football captain on record. He currently serves as a Lecturer in Culture\, Advocacy and Leadership at Vanderbilt University New York City.
